Renovating Your Kitchen? Features To Incorporate

The kitchen is arguably one of the busiest rooms in the house. Not only is it the hub for meal preparations, but the kitchen table is often the gathering place for family conversations and more. That's why your kitchen renovation plans are so important. Before you finalize your kitchen renovation, here are a few features that you might want to consider incorporating.

Center Island Cooktop

If you spend a lot of time making meals in your kitchen, you may feel as though you don't get enough time visiting with friends and family because you're at the stove. When you're renovating your kitchen anyway, you can eliminate this issue entirely by opting for a center island in the kitchen with a cooktop incorporated into it.

When you transition your cooktop to a center island in your kitchen, you can spend your cooking time facing your guests or family, visiting and connecting with them. You can even add a breakfast bar on the opposite side with barstools so that people can sit and help you with food preparation or just socialize.

Cork Flooring

Another great feature to incorporate in your kitchen renovation is cork flooring. As flooring options go, cork flooring is an ideal solution for the kitchen because it provides some cushioning under your feet.

If you spend a lot of time cooking and preparing meals at the counters, that time on your feet can be hard on your heels and your lower back if your kitchen floor is too hard. That's why many people add cushioned pads to the floors in those areas.

However, if you install cork flooring, you won't need to add anything. There's enough cushion in the flooring to help take the stress off your back and your heels. Additionally, cork flooring is great for areas where moisture and spills are a concern. This flooring isn't nearly as susceptible to mildew, mold, and similar damage.

Storage Features

Kitchen renovations should focus as much on functionality as form. One thing many people overlook is the storage options that are available for kitchen spaces. For example, you can incorporate added ceiling support and a hanging rack to keep all of your pots and pans elevated, out of your cabinets, and easily accessible.

If you're interested in getting your knife block off the counter and any excess sharp knives out of your drawers, you should also talk with your kitchen renovation contractor about adding a metallic strip on the wall by your cooktop and preparation area. This magnetic strip will hold your knives in place securely.

These are a few of the features to discuss with your kitchen renovation contractors. Think about any other added features or functionality changes that might make your kitchen tasks easier.

About Me

Avoiding Remodeling Challenges

Do you have things about your place that you are less than pleased with? For example, I absolutely love my home, but I have never really liked the main level floor plan, as it cuts people off from one another when they are trying to hang out. I started thinking about ways to improve my experience about a year ago, and my friend recommended a great remodeling contractor with years of experience. They came out, did what they could to make things better, and completely transformed my entire experience. Read more about remodeling on my blog to find out what you need to do.
